Why the Trinity Matters

The Doctrine of the triune nature of God has been debated for centuries. Every cult and every false religion attempts to attack the nature of God and the deity of Jesus. Orthodox Christians through all of antiquity have maintained that the fundamentals of who God has revealed himself to be in scripture lies in the truth that there is only one true and living God.

Deuteronomy 6:4-The Shema, "Hear oh Isreal: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

This verse is a statement of exclusivity not of eternal unity of God. The Lord alone is Isreal's God. This is a sharp contrast to the polytheistic Canaanites. The God of Isreal shares his glory with no one.

The one being of God is revealed in three separate, co-equal, co-eternal persons; God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. These three persons are completely equal in attributes, each with the same divine nature. While each person is fully and completely God, the persons are not identical.
